Cemeteries have always been places of memory — but more and more, they are becoming places of education, community, and public engagement.
We created this national survey to explore how cemeteries across the country are using tourism and events to connect with their communities. Whether it's walking tours, history nights, seasonal markets, or public remembrance ceremonies, these programs are helping to tell stories, support preservation, and generate revenue.
Through this project, we're asking:
- What kinds of cultural, educational, or community events are cemeteries offering?
- Who are they partnering with to make it happen?
- What are the motivations, barriers, and opportunities?
- And how can we support cemeterians who want to do more?
Our goal is to share what we learn — so you can see how others are navigating this space, what’s working, and what could be possible at your own site.
